Preparation for World Trials - Victoria

Landed in Victoria last night and have settled into the hotel. I just have two essays and a presentation to finish off and then I will be ready to go for Nationals. I can't wait to race again, although I have missed a lot of training because of illness.
I am just excited to be back in Victoria where I have done some of my fastest swimming and not have to go to class or work so I can just focus on swimming.

Day Three

I couldn't sleep on Friday night, because I got a fever and when I finally did fall asleep I had about four hours maximum, so needless to say I felt pretty awful on Saturday morning. My prelim 200 IM showed how tired I was, because I died at the end of every length. I ended up placing 27th with a 2:25, which is 5 seconds over my best time.

I scratched my 200 back, because I really didn't think I would be competitive in it. And then it turned out that three people scratched and I made it into the C, bonus final in the 200 IM. At the time I was not too pleased, because I was still at the pool and still hadn't slept and felt really sick.

I was able to go back to the hotel and get a good three hour nap in and felt much better. I warmed up well, and busted out a WAY better 200 IM of 2:22.69, placing my third in the C final.

Overall I was happy with the meet, although definitely disappointed in my 100 back results.

I am very excited to get back in the pool and start practicing again though, I am a little tired of racing and now that I know what I need to work on I am excited to start that work. I had issues finishing my lengths in backstroke long course and both short course and long course I was going out too slow, so for the next three weeks between now and World Trials in Victoria I am going to be working on front end speed in breaststroke and underwater/backend speed in my backstroke.

Day Two Finals

200 breast tonight:
FINALLY a best time since grade twelve: 2:39.15
I still have a lot of work to do on the splitting, but overall I am happy with the race. Although, excited to go back to practice and train hard before World Trials!

Prelims Day Two

100 backstroke this morning was a miss. I was a 1:05.6 and placed 31st. So, no second swim. I was out fast enough, but then dropped off my stroke rate in the last 25 and couldn't hold onto my speed.
Then my breaststroke race, over TWO HOURS LATER, went much better. I was out very slow, but didn't die and went 2:40.77, which is just a second over my best time. I also made a B final in 14th spot, so I have another shot tonight to go a best time.
I am looking forward to only having one race tonight and not having to wait forever between races. It will also be nice to know what stroke to warm up.

Finals Day One

I moved up a couple places in the bonus C final and almost matched my personal best time.
I was out slower than the morning, however, by going out 35.0, which is slow for sprint breaststroke. Amanda Reason was also in my C final and won it going 1.10.
Today I have 100 back and then two hours later I have 200 breast.

Prelims Day One

100 breast this morning went OK. Not as well as I had hoped, but not bad for my first long course race of the year.
I am going into the C final in 20th spot. I am just under a second over my best time, so I am hoping to get a best time tonight.
I just need to keep my stroke rate up on the second 50 and it should be good. It will probably also help to be in a heat where people are close to me, because in my heat this morning I was leading by a lot, because I was entered with my short course time.
ALSO! Awesome and exciting news, they are selling yellow dome caps, so now I can represent UCSC without having to worry about getting my dome cap off super fast after my swim.

Indy

If you want to find results from the meet go here and click on the results link and it will take you to the live results page.
I swim 100 breast tomorrow, 100 back and 200 breast on Friday, and 200 back and 200 IM on Saturday. Although the meet has some tough competitors there are up to C finals, so I am hoping to get over my long course racing issues and get second swims.
Considering how I swam at CIS, I am hoping for good things in the backstrokes, because of the lack of underwater, and as that was my weakest part at CIS, by taking that away I should be good.
Now, I am just preparing for the meet the best way there is, by watching Centre Stage. However, now that I have grown up a little bit it is Centre Stage 2 Turn It Up, instead of the original....although it is lacking some motivational aspects.
I'll update about my events throughout the meet.

Indianapolis

Travelled to Indiana yesterday, without any mishaps, aside from having to pay to check my bag I enjoyed the trip.
Then went straight to the pool and did a couple meters to get the travelling out of our system. The pool is phenomenal! And I cannot wait to race in it. The meet has quite a few Canadians with Some Ontario and Quebec teams.
